Belmont: Then & Now

Between 2018-2020 archival research, GIS, and archaeological work was used to look at how historians, geographers, and contemporary archaeologists study boomtowns or other similar ephemeral sites. We are closer than we have been before to knowing where each building in Belmont was located.
Below is an interactive slider map that allows you to compare the city of Belmont today to what it may have looked like in 1918.
-
Buildings highlighted in green are structures that we know their exact location and or use.
-
Buildings in yellow are locations that are probable, based on archival evidence, photos, and features on the ground
-
Buildings in pink are locations that are approximate based on archival and photo evidence.
